My puppy is vomiting and stomach looks caved in. Should I go to vet?

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Male | unneutered | 3 months and 5 days old | 20 lbs

My 3 month old pitbull Zeus has been vomiting all morning. I think it could be something he got ahold of or ate but I'm not sure. His stomach seems a bit caved in too. When should I seek vet help

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Zeus! Since he is so young and has been vomiting all morning I would make an appointment for today. WE do not like babies getting dehydrated and if they can't eat they can get low blood sugar. Causes of vomiting in puppies are: intestinal parasites, viral (especially parvo) and bacterial infections, ate something gross, foreign body causing a blockage, toxin ingestion, reaction to new food/treat/table food, food allergy or intolerance. I wish Zeus a speedy recovery!

    I’m sorry to hear about Zeus. I am very concerned about him and he needs a vet as soon as possible. He is probably extremely dehydrated by now and may even be heading toward shock. I am extremely concerned for an intestinal blockage or parvo virus. Regardless of cause, Zeus desperately needs some fluids- probably IV- and anti nausea medication. I do not recommend anything by mouth because he will probably just vomit it up and I cannot be sure that he is swallowing properly. In short, at this point, there is nothing you can do for Zeus other than take him to a vet immediatley. Many places will work with care credit ( carecredit.com ) If money is an issue.     Zues needs to see the veterinarian quickly. Weakness to the point of not caring if he is excreting on himself is a sign of serious illness. Just like people, there are many conditions that can make pets feel sick. This could range from a serious infection to intestinal blockage. Also like us, diseases are best addressed early and this may result in a better prognosis. Zeus needs appropriate medical care today. The doctor will need to learn the underlying cause in order to give appropriate treatment. Bring in a stool sample in case the doctor needs to test it. Best of luck.

Vomiting can be observed with conditions such as gastroenteritis, pancreatitis, dietary indiscretion, gastrointestinal foreign body ingestion and obstruction, among other possibilities. For this reason, I highly recommend that you have Zeus evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment as soon as possible as I am afraid he is likely becoming dehydrated. They would be able to check for these possibilities and also check his hydration status and give him medications to make him feel better. Good luck!

I have a 3 month old German shepherd in the last 3 days he has not eaten he's vomiting and has diarrhea. He's not active as he used to be. The last vomit was red I believe blood. He hasn't gotten his shots yet not till Monday is our appointment. What
This is an emergency, as your puppy could be suffering from a parvo virus infection or at least a serious gastro-intestinal condition. You will need to take Zeus to a petER now as bloody vomiting is pointing to a life-threatening condition. He will need an exam, blood work, possibly an xray to rule out a foreign body obstruction or an intussuscepted intestine. If he suffers form parvo he will need iv fluids, antibiotics, and pain medicine, and hospitalization.

My puppy has vomited last night after dinner and has vomited again this morning but just stomach fluid or saliva whatever it is cause obviously doesnt have anything in his stomach...what should i do?
Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Poor Thanos! He is very young so any vomiting and not holding down meals in a 7 week old puppy is worrisome. Possible causes are: intestinal parasites, viral (especially parvo virus) or bacterial infections, ate something gross, ate something that is stuck and causing a blockage, food allergy/intolerance or a reaction to a new food/treat or table food. I would with hold water and breakfast for a short period of time. In 3 hours if there is not further vomiting off small amounts of water frequently. If he holds the water down then start feeding a bland diet of boiled chicken breast or hamburger with rice. Feed small amounts every 2-3 hours. If at anytime he vomits again or if he refuses to eat he needs to see a Vet. Sooner if non-stop vomiting or he is very lethargic. I wish Thanos a speedy recovery!

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Poor Zeus! If Zeus vomits daily he likely is allergic to his food or has inflammatory bowel disease. I would try first to change his food. The most common allergic protein is chicken. I would buy a food that doesn't contain chicken. Try beef, venison, pork, salmon, duck. You have to give the diet 2-3 months before trying a different one. You can not give him any other foods or treats that aren't made from the protein in his food. We can't prescribe medications because we are unable to examine Zeus. Daily vomiting is a lot and I recommend an exam with your Vet so they can prescribe medications while you start a food trial. Puppies do tend to sleep a lot more than adult dogs, so this is probably normal. The soft stools could be caused by food intolerance, food allergies, intestinal parasites, dietary indiscretion, bacterial or viral infection, stress colitis, among others. I would recommend that you have Zeus dewormed in case this is caused by intestinal parasites. A common cause for vomiting in puppies is overeating or eating too fast. You may need to divide up Zeus's daily feeding amount into 4 meals that he eats every 6 hours. The bag of food will have feeding guidelines on the back or side that will tell you how much he should eat each day based on either his current weight or his expected adult weight. If you do this and Zeus is still vomiting, or if he is not interested in food, I recommend that Zeus be checked out by a vet ASAP.

Thank you for using Boop by Petco! It is possible that Ciroc ate a little too quickly or greedily, causing her to vomit. However, in puppies, vomiting can be caused by parasites and dangerous viral infections. I recommend keeping an eye on Ciroc for continued vomiting, loss of energy/appetite, and diarrhea. If any of these signs occur, she should be seen by a vet ass soon as possible. I hope this helps and that all is well!

My 8 month old pit bull puppy started throwing up every 5-10 mins. Started with food and now it's just foam. What should i do for him?
Hello and welcome to Boop by Petco. Vomiting this frequently can be either due to something stuck in the GI tract, or a severe gastritis (inflammation of the GI tract) that can be caused by an infection such a parvo-virus or food poisoning, or just a stomach upset. If Zao hasn't stopped vomiting and isn't eating/drinking well, then I would recommend taking him to the vet. They will likely want to do x-rays to make sure nothing is blocking the GI tract if he is continuing to vomit. Otherwise they can get him medications to make him not throw up. Best of luck with Zao.

Why does my dog have a runny tummy
It could be that Zuess ate something rotten, has a GI illness, or a foreign body causing this runny tummy. It could also be that he has intestinal worms or something very serious such as parvovirus. Parvo is a too often fatal infection of young, unvaccinated puppies. Given I don't know his vaccination status and the fact that diarrhea can be very serious in puppies, the best thing to do is have him seen by a vet now. The vet can diagnose what is causing his diarrhea, and how best to treat it. Good luck, I hope this helps!

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Poor Bagel (GREAT name for a beagle!)! Since he is just 6 weeks old it is best to have a Vet take a look at him. When they are this young I worry about dehydration and low blood sugar. They can also deteriorate quickly. Causes of vomiting are: viral infections like parvovirus, intestinal parasites, dietary indiscretion (ate something gross), foreign body (something is stuck), food allergy or sensitivity. Your Vet may want you to bring a stool sample so they can check it for parasites, they may want to test for parvovirus and take X-rays of his belly.
