My dog is limping after a tick bite. Should I give amoxicillin?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | unneutered | 3 years and 5 months old

Hi, since sunday morning my dog had a very little limp in his front right leg. Now his limping is more in home, while walking it's competitively less. There is no fever or pain when i physically examined the leg. This morning i found a tick and removed it, tick was rice shaped and black. After reading on net i think it could be lyme disease but there is no pain or fever, he is eating normally.i wanted to start a month course of amoxicillin. I would like your opinion as there are no good vets here

Hello, sorry to hear about Baloo. It could indeed be lyme disease and he may need either amoxicillin or doxycycline. Before staring him on antibiotics, you can test him for lyme disease with a snap test. If positive, then this could be more of a reason to start him on antibiotics. Hope this helps and best of luck.
