My cat is licking her skin and losing hair. Should I see the vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 4 years and 6 months old | 8 lbs

My cat is licking and biting her skin the past few days, she doesn’t have fleas and the patches where the hair has fallen out seems sore. I have been feeding her Iam’s wet food, but since noticing today the issues with licking and biting, I changed the food to science diet. Should I wait to see if the food change works? Or should I take her to the vet although the vet could cause her a lot of stress and she isn’t very nice she bites and attacks stangers and even me.

IF she is licking and biting constantly don't wait for the food as it will either take weeks to take effect but will most like,y have no effect at all. the vet will give her an injection to stop the itchiness of the skin to start with.
