Worms in dog poop after deworming with Nemex-2: Should I worry?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 1 month and 9 days old | 13 lbs

I gave him first dose of Nemex-2 last week and today I noticed his poop has some part that looked like a small worm. I’m not sure which worm it is, but it wasn’t moving and I’m not sure if it even was a worm. He’s been eating and playing just fine. Should I be worried? Does this mean the dewormer will cover that type of worm?

Nemex-2 kills roundworms and hookworms. Roundworms look like spaghetti, while typically you don't see evidence of hookworms in the feces without a microscope (this technique would show their eggs in the feces). I'm wondering if that you are seeing is a segment of tapeworm, which looks like a grain of rice. If that describes what you are seeing, then Nemex-2 does not kill tapeworms. You need a deworming medication that contains praziquantel to kill tapeworms, and an excellent deworming treatment that contains praziquantel is Drontal. You can get it from your vet. Given Luke's age, he should be dewormed every two weeks until he is three months of age, so you get a Drontal from your vet to give to him two weeks after you first gave him the Nemex-2. Given that he's eating and playing just fine, I wouldn't be worried about him. Good luck, I hope this helps!
