Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Unknown - Small Animal | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 8 months old | 0.15 lbs

what do I do If my dwarf hamster right leg is broken? I think it is broken. It is very swollen and red. My hamster drags its leg and does not put pressure on it. I don't know what to do. She is almost two years old. I notice it last night. Should I take her to a vet on Monday

Poor Zoey, this is a very painful condition. You can try to cool the leg with a cold wrap on and off ( 2-3 minutes at a time, but make sure that she does not start to get cold.) to help with the pain. She may have a little abscess there as well. Inspect the leg thoroughly and make sure that there isn't a hair or string wrapped around it that cuts off the blood flow. She really needs to be seen by a vet ASAP.
