My dog's paw is injured. Is it healing, or does she need a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 8 months old | 65 lbs

My dog injured her paw on March 2nd, I cleaned it and bandaged her up but then she started taking the bandages off after a few days so I left it with no bandages. Attached is a pic of he wound from today a week and a day later. Do you think I should take her to the vet on Monday ? I didn’t take her at first because I read that stitches for paw injuries don’t usually work and are hard to do, but what should I do?

You are right, suturing a pad wound like this is difficult. You’ve done a good job with her care. This is healing well. That is normal scar tissue and the wound does not look infected. There is no need to take her in Monday. Pads take a long time to heal so it may be another week or two before it’s fully healed. If she’s licking it a lot that will slow the healing so use a cone to prevent licking. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to help you care for Eevee.
