Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 18 years and 6 months old | 7 lbs
My 18 yr old male kitty has hyperthyroidism, as well as some renal failure. Does not take meds. Vet had us try Hill's Y/d formula, which he ate..but his demeanor is odd. Only sleeps and eats, shows no affection, no interest, as if he's had a lobotomy. Tonite I offered his old food, he chose that over the Hills..and within 15" he was back to normal. Is that a known side effect of their Y/D diet?

No that is uncommon. Many cats do not do well with diet changes and he certainly had a poor reaction to the food. Continue with his old diet. If you are unable to give oral medication you can have the medication made into a gel that you can rub on the ear flap where it will be absorbed through the skin. A compounding pharmacy can do this for you. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to help you care for Theo.
