Is my dog's wound healing well? What to look for after a week?

The wound actually looks very good. Make sure it does not get contaminated with dirt. You need to keep your dog from licking the wound as the licking may get it infected with bacteria. Should the wound start to ooze or show pus, you should have it examined by a vet who will then give you an antibiotic ointment to alleviate that.

    Yes. This red rough area is called granulation tissue. It protects the underlying area from infection so it can heal. It also provides a matrix for the skin to close together. Over time the skin will come together until you are left with a small scarred area. This is a fairly large wound so for it to fully heal it may take several weeks for the skin to come together and the fur to start growing in.
