Why are my old dog's legs weak after a traumatic event?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Boston Terrier | Male | neutered | 25 lbs

My 14 year old Boston Terrier Oliver is having problems. Just a day ago I noticed when he would lift his head from sniffing, he would get startled at objects a full foot from his face. He also can't stand for long without his back legs sagging down, and he can't walk straight. He has had his vision problem for a while now, but the other symptoms started after my brother trapped him in a bag like a wild animal and Oliver flipped out BAD. Can you relate these problems to something specific? thanks

He likely already had arthritis in his hips and back and getting trapped in a bag caused him to panic. He most likely kicked and panicked and hurt his back and legs This can cause weakness and swelling around the spinal cord and back muscles which make to worse. He should see a vet as there is medication to help with pain for him to regain his strength
