My canary is lying on cage bottom and breathing hard. What's wrong?

Hi my canary jasper is lying on bottom of the cage and is breathing really hard I love him and do not want him to die if you can tell me what is wrong or if is normal for a bird to cill out on bottom of cage Thanks Mia Milanese

These concerning signs could be compatible with an upper respiratory tract inflammation/infection (inflammatory, allergic, infective). A clinical examination at your local veterinarian is essential to confirm this clinical suspicion and treat appropriately. Antibiotics may be needed.     The symptoms may be respiratory infection or possibly air sac mites. An exam with your veterinarian would be recommended as respiratory infection may require antibiotics. Clean and sanitize the cage, bowls, perches and toys. Discard anything that cannot be sanitized. Clean or change the cage paper daily. If it is mites, you can use an OTC mite spray commonly found in the Bird section of most pet stores. Read the label carefully as some are not to be used directly on the bird.
