My cat's eye has black pigment after ulcer. Should I do surgery?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Burmese | Male | neutered | 9 years and 2 months old

My cat had an ulcer on his eye that has healed but now has lots of black pigment in his eye. Surgery to remove it has been recommended but it doesn't seem to affect him at all apart from looking abnormal. Is surgery the best option? Can he see out of this eye?

I would need to see a clear picture of the eye to give you my opinion regarding this specific case, in some cases surgery is not absolutely necessary and cats can live just fine with the little permanent damage on the cornea, in other cases the damage is extensive and surgery is highly recommended.
