My dog sleeps all the time. Is this normal or a sign of illness?

My Chihuahua mix will sleep 24 hours a day with short breaks to go out or eat. He's 5 yo rescue. Is this normal behavior? Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 5 years and 3 months old | 15 lbs

If he is eating and drinking well, with no vomiting or diarrhea, then it does not sound abnormal. Some dogs are just more energetic than others However, if this behavior is new, then I would consult your vet for testing. If their thyroid is low then it can lead to lethargy and may be contributing.
