Is it okay to give my nursing dog Tums for low calcium after birth?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 8 lbs

I talked with a vet on here who said it was a good idea to give my dog a tum cuz of the way the puppies were delivered. We had to take her for thefourth one because her calcium was too low to push him out. They gave her 2 shots there and set us home with puppy formula. I've fed her some formula 2. I only have extra strength 750 ml. I broke the tum into 4ths and fed her 1/4, i still broke off one of the corners. She didnt eat the whole thing, left a few pieces. Should she be okay, can i continue?

Yes, i would continue with calcium supplementation (low blood levels can result in seizures in nursing mothers). Given her small size, i would recommend getting a dog version, in smaller, more accurate dosage such as canovel tablets or a calcium powder available from your vets office or petstore
