Do dog face markings change size? Help identify my lost Border Collie.

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 4 years and 9 months old | 46 lbs

My dog went missing about 1 and a 1/2 years ago. Someone brought a dog that looks exactly like her to,me but few markings are slightly different. She is a black and white border collie blue heeler is it possible for the area on her face that's white with black spots to get a bit larger on one side? Like by and inch and a half? The pictures in attatchin are of,mine ( in the grass) The third is also,my dog from when she was younger. The one on the carpet is the one in question.

Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I can see that the markings on the faces of the dogs are somewhat different. These markings may change slightly with age, but typically stay the same. I recommend having the dog you have been given seen by a shelter to check for a microchip. If one is present, and Laci had been chipped, then you can easily confirm that it is the same dog. If there is no microchip but Lacy had one, and vice versa, then unfortunately, it may not be her. I hope this helps and that all works out!
