Can baking soda help iguana shedding? Is free-roaming safe for iguanas?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

I have an iguana with either a bacteria or fungal infection I read if I put baking soda in water with iguana it helps soften skin and such so I can get the old shed off, is this true can baking soda in the bath water help? And how do you feel about free roaming for an ight? I have a small bedroom that would do perfect for an iggys to grow up in. Wondering if that would be Okay as long as everything is provided that it needs?

A baking soda bath is only recommended for severe cases of dysecdysis (abnormal shedding) and only under the direction of an experienced herp veterinarian. A warm bath, 85 F to 90 F, daily should be enough to provide adequate moisture/humidity to ease shedding as long as the environmental parameters are correct. Personally, I'm not a fan of free roaming. The risk of injury, escape, toxicity and getting chilled is too high.
