My large puppy is on small breed food. Is Nutrisource okay or switch?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | neutered | 4 months and 5 days old | 80 lbs

I have a 4 month old yellow lab puppy, male. The food we were sold at the pet store picking him up was “nutrisource small and medium breed puppy” he is a large breed puppy so I’m wondering if I need to switch his food. Also wondering if nutrisource is a good quality dog food. If not I would love recommendations!! Thank you.

I would recommend keeping Oakley on the food he was on for 2 weeks after you take him home. Then if the food he is on you don't want to continue you can gradually transition him to another type of food. Some good brands are: Science Diet, Eukanuba, Iams, Purina, Proplan, Nutro, etc. I typically like the big brand name foods since they do the research and they have veterinarians on staff to discuss things. If you feel Oakley is doing well with the Nutrisource you can keep him on it unless he starts having issues. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
