New cockatiels: female chirps sadly, male screams. Is this normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Unknown - Bird | Female | 0.187 lbs

So,my female cockatiel(the grey one),is making some questionable actions. At times she will bend down or crouch and make little sad-like chirps, and my male cockatiel(the yellow one),screams and shouts loudly. This happens 2-3 times a day and I've had them for 1 week and three days now,and I'm worried but there is no vet near me.Can you help out?

Since the birds are new to you (and I am assuming new to each other) they are probably a little stressed and taking time to adjust to their new surroundings. Also, since they are new to you, this may be completely normal behavior for them. You may want to try separating them and see if that helps. If they are eating and drinking well, do not appear to be injured and are having normal excrement then I would not be too concerned. They most likely are stressed and just need time to adjust to their new normal. I hope this helps. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Bestnof luck.
