Which farm dog is best: Caucasian Ovcharka or Tibetan Mastiff?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Caucasian ovtcharka or tibetan mastiff as a farm Dog? These are the Key factors for me- 1.less likely to roam, 2. Will have the most love and affection for me, 3. Learn bounderies of the farm and stay,4.better with other dogs and livestock,I'm definitely getting one of these dogs as my current German Shepherd seems to do nothing when a fox gets into the chickens even my chihuahua Is more brave than my gsd so it's definitely between these 2

The Caucasian Ovcharka has a better temperament and is more affectionate I think. It is also a little more relaxed and should make a better companion. They both are excellent livestock guardian dogs. They both need to be trained and socialized and learn the farm boundaries and who and what they are to guard. If you are interested in a protector and guardian for your home and property, either would fit the bill. Acclimating the dog to your horses and your horses to the dog would be important as would ongoing training to maintain good behavior. The ovcharka may be a bit more playful when not "on duty" , but it would be a personal preference as to whether or not you wanted a companion more than a guardian.
