Pet's info: Dog | American Staffordshire Terrier | Female | spayed | 12 years and 2 months old | 65 lbs
Hello. My 12 to dogs hind legs seem to be bothering her. She has arthritis but is not on any medication. She's a tough girl and doesn't seem bothered by it but visually we can see she is having problems and assume she is in pain. Is there something we can do to ease the inflammation until the vet opens tomorrow? Our puppy has an anti-inflammatory medicine that I wondered if it would be safe to give the 12 year old.

I'm sorry to hear that Tess seems so uncomfortable today. I wouldn't recommend giving the puppy's medication to her. Sometimes older dogs have underlying kidney or liver disease. If Tess has some mild organ dysfunction due to her age the anti-inflammatory medication could make it worse. The other reason would be if your veterinarian finds something different from arthritis on her examination tomorrow. Some other conditions such as back pain can be treated with medications that cannot be given at the same time as anti-inflammatory drugs. Keep her quiet today and help her if she needs assistance. Hope Tess feels better soon!
