Why does my dog still have a red, bruised bald spot after a vet visit?

Pet's info: Dog | Toy Poodle | Female | unspayed | 9 months and 6 days old | 7 lbs

When my toy poodle had her period I made the mistake to make her wear a diaper to avoid stains. After her first heat we realized that she had a bald spot. It was red like it waa bruised. We assumed that maybe she did it to herself trying to free herself from the diaper. We took her to the vet and he gave her antibiotics and a spray. Now its healed and doesnt seem to bother her. She plays and eats normal. This happened 2 months and half ago but she still has the bold spot and it looks bruised.

It looks like it is on the right thigh? It is possible that this could be a deep skin infection, a demodex mite problem, a mass (tumor), or even a Rabies vaccine reaction site. I would encourage you to have a follow up appointment with your veterinarian. They may recommend looking for mites, an oral antibiotic, or even a biopsy.     The patch looks like it could be demodex mites. This takes a microscopic exam to diagnose. These are mites that are common in young dogs. If it is demodex often 1 lesion will evenually reaolve on its own, but occasionally will need therapy. I would encourage you to have Emmet evaluated by your veterinarian soon. Hello and thank you for reaching out to Boop by Petco. It could definitely be a small bug bite, or even a pimple or an ingrown hair, although it doesn’t look very inflamed. Since he was recently groomed, he could have gotten knicked by the clippers in that area, making it slightly reddened. As long as he doesn’t seem bothered by it and it isn’t painful to the touch, and he is otherwise healthy, I don’t think he needs to go to the vet right now. I would recommend monitoring the spot to see if it changes in appearance at all (color, size) or if more spots appear anywhere on his body. If this occurs, Cash may need to be evaluated by a veterinarian who can examine the spot more closely and determine if it has become infected. I hope this helps!

What could this be?
That redness could indicate a bacterial infection. Sometimes the infection is a primary problem but sometimes it can indicate an allergy or allergic reaction. Less commonly, skin mites can look like this. On the right side, there is a very dark red discoloration. This could be present if he is licking or scratching at it. The concern I have is if that red discoloration is bruising. Bruising is not normal in dogs and is considered indicative of a possible emergency. Reasons for bruising include an autoimmune disorder, eating rat poison, a bleeding disorder or liver disease. If you suspect that is a bruise, I recommend to have Jax seen by the veterinarian quickly. A skin rash is not an emergency. You need to keep him from licking the area by making him wear an elizabethan collar at all times. You can wash the area daily with hand soap and rinse well. You can apply a dab of coconut oil and rub it in well a couple times a day. If it is not much better with in a week, take him to his vete

Oh no. Poor guy. It looks like he is having a superficial pyoderma ("hot spot") reaction to his skin following the injection, and maybe even a bit of cellulitis. You will need to unfortunately take Lucky back to the vet to get this treated with oral antibiotics, and also oral pet friendly anti-inflammatory medication. The topicals aren't going to be enough to help this resolve. You can clean the area with Betadine diluted 50:50 with warm water to keep it clean. You should definitely also keep the e-collar on him until this has resolved or at least until it is no longer bothering him. I am sorry your fur baby had such a bad reaction and hope that this can be avoided in the future. Best wishes and take care!

Disinfection may be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking(if any).

What is this on my puppy should I be concerned ?
This looks as if it could be an insect bite, such as a biting fly. If your dog has no other areas of skin that look bruised, her gums look nice and pink with no bruising, and she has normal appetite/energy then I would just monitor the spot. If it isn't resolving in a few days or other abnormalities develop then a vet exam is needed.

She was shaved months ago and hair in area has not regrown ( large portion of back leg) with pink spot in center ( half dollar size). Vet ruled out ringworm, hotspot, and insect bite. Area of hairloss is growing, area in center and skin in area looks
That area on Ares looks inflamed and the skin looks thickened. This is generally a sign of a chronic irritation. Did she have the spot before the shaving? Has she been vaccinated in the past 6 months for rabies? You could try applying a topical steroid that you could get from her doctor and this may help. I have seen pets develop irritated areas and the cause has never been determined. A biopsy is always to option to know for sure what you have going on. I would talk to her doctor about the rabies vaccine, the topical cream and a biopsy. Best of luck!

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This looks like a severe focal infection. I recommend you have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment as this will likely require local therapy with cleaning of the site, pain control medications and antibiotics. Also, your veterinarian could check for a possible underlying cause like allergies, mites or a foreign body reaction. Good luck!

My dog has a small red round rash. No satellite lesions. Solid red. No hair loss. No apparent pain or itching. Any idea what it could be? I did not see any bugs attached there. He had a tick last week but it was on his flank. This area is on his lowe
Bo's lesion looks most suspicious for a bacterial skin infection, but could also be due to ringworm, mange, or bruising. Since it does not seem to be bothering him, you can monitor the lesion for the time being to see if it changes colors, grows, becomes itchy, or spreads elsewhere. You can also try bathing him with an antimicrobial shampoo (here is one example: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=27982 ). However, if the lesion worsens or seems to be causing discomfort, it is worth taking a trip to the vet for evaluation. I hope that all goes well!

Hi! So I was in the midst of showering my 6-month-old toy poodle and suddenly I discovered a small patch of redness on her neck area. I do not know how it evolve. As far as I know, she is not allergic to chicken, beef, turkey.
Unfortunately, without physically examining the area and potentially performing some diagnostics, I can't say for sure what sort of lesion that is. At first glance, it looks like something that could have been self-induced due to a primary issue causing itchiness. You should probably schedule a veterinary appointment and in the meantime get a cone to prevent your pup come itching the area further. If you do not believe your pup is itchy, then I would be more concerned about some sort of animal bite or bacterial infection. Hope this makes sense.
