Why does my 4-month-old Labrador have a small lump on her leg?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Female | unspayed | 2 months and 15 days old | 13.16 lbs

I have a 4 month Labrador which has developed a benign growth above her knee, it's no bigger than a pea. It's not bothering her at the moment. What causes them?

Hello. For the most part, benign lumps & nodules are very common in animals, even very young ones. If it remains fairly stable, & does not appear to be growing or causing Brie any discomfort, just have your vet take a look at it at your next wellness visit. If it begins to enlarge, become irritated or starts bleeding, please have it evaluated as soon as possible. Some benign tumors, like histiocytomas, will actually regress on their own over time. Just watch it for now. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
