Dog's eye has recurring infection after injury. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | 12 years and 6 months old | 10 lbs

I came home and found a big bubble full of puss under my dog's eye. I drained and cleaned it. However, just a month ago, this was the same spot that he had a laceration that I had to clean and let heal. Is this something that I should be concerned about?

It may be related to the previous injury if the infection was not completely healed. It is a common area to have an infection if there is a tooth root abscess also. Keep the area clean, I would have your vet recheck the area and evaluate the teeth. Often times you need antibiotics and to have the infected tooth removed if that is the case or else it just keep recurring like you are seeing.
