My 5-week-old puppy has roundworms. Can I deworm them on amoxicillin?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | unspayed | 2 years and 5 months old | 55 lbs

My dog had 7 pups 5 weeks ago, and we’ve been giving them amoxicillin for 3 days, because they have a virus. Today I found a roundworm in one of their stools, do you think it’s likely they all have worms? Is it okay to treat them while their on amoxicillin? What is best dewormer for their condition? How do you give it to them?

Unless the amoxicillin was prescribed by your veterinarian, you should stop giving it, as it does not work against viruses. If one puppy has roundworms, then all puppies will have roundworms and should be treated with a puppy wormer available from your vet or a petshop. Any wormer which is specified as a puppy wormer should be effective. Puppy wormers are either in tablet or paste form and are given by mouth.
