What is this new pink lump on my puppy's private area?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 2 months and 1 day old | 12 lbs

Hi there, my 8 week old Bernese mountain/golden retriever mix pup has developed a pinkish/red lump right about an inch above her genitalia. It’s hard and looks to had a Center to it, and I would say size wise it’s almost as big as my finger nail. It doesn’t seem to bug her much, only when I bring attention to it does it seem to bug her a bit. She did have a physical examination yesterday by the vet, but it seems to have only popped up today.

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. From the pictures, I suspect that what you are seeing is a insect bite or pustule. I would recommend monitoring it for now and if it worsens, becomes much larger or does not go away, I would recommend having the veterinarian recheck Maisy so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. You can apply a spray such as Malacetic conditioning spray to the area, which can be found online and do this twice daily until it resolves. I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns and I would be more than happy to help you further.
