My 4-month puppy has crate accidents. Will she grow out of it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 3 months and 9 days old | 9 lbs

My puppy is about to turn 4 months next week, she has had problems with urinating in her crate but recently has gotten better, this time it was a week before she had one in her crate today (I came home to her licking up her mess). She goes out right before and the maximum time she is in her crate is 3.5 hours. Is this something that she will eventually just grow out of?

When potty training a puppy, there will be steps forward and step backwards. It can be expected the puppy will have accidents while they are being potty trained. I wouldn't let Charlie have any water before going into the crate, and you are doing the right thing by putting her outside before going in the crate and only leaving her for a maximum of 3.5 hours. Keep up the good work!
