My new rescue dog is aggressive, lethargic, and crying. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 18.4 lbs

I adopted a 5 y.o. Corgi mix 10 days ago. He's been doing great generally, but has started becoming very aggressive in the last couple days, along with being very lethargic. Tonight he seems to be crying a lot, though I can't seem to figure out why. He's been to the vet, but I'm worried something could've been missed, or that I'm not doing something I should. Any suggestions??

He may be painful or fearful - I would recommend a full physical exam in light of the crying you describe as it is possible he is becoming defensive due to pain. Do not place yourself in danger as anxious/painful dogs can react very unpredictably, if no source of pain is identified consider calming foods, pheromone products and contacting a certified trainer for a house visit. Some rescue dogs can bring a variety of behaviors due to past experience which start to show in new surroundings and can take a lot of time, patience and experience to deal with
