My cat's cyst popped. What should I do? How to clean? Vet needed?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed

I accidentally popped my cats "growth" or cyst. I didn't take her to the vet before when I noticed it because I honestly can't afford it, but I've been checking it since I realized it was there. It doesn't seem to bother her and she doesn't complain about it. Her behavior is normal she eats and drinks water just fine. The goo that came out was neither smelly nor runny, it was like thick and gray. What should I do now? How do I keep it clean? Should I take her to the vet?

I would gently clean the area with warm water and antiseptic soap, and keep Bella from licking at it with an Ecollar. You can get an Ecollar from a pet store or you can make one yourself. I would have Bella seen by a vet in the morning, as the cyst may need to be removed to prevent it from reoccurring. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ffR-LzyW1M
