My dog has IVDD and is still in pain despite medication. Help!

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | 4 years and 6 months old | 26 lbs

My dog developed IVDD on Friday, and my vet said it was at stage 5. It began with a limp Friday and she was fully unable to walk on sat morning. She's on 3 meds but still in pain. Is there anything I can do to help her relieve the pain? She is prescribed 50mg tramadol every 6-12 hours but I've had to give her 100 mg and sooner than 6 hours.

I am not sure the other medications but an anti-inflammatory and muscle relaxer may help with her pain. You could also ask your vet about Gabapentin which might help, as well. Hope she feels better soon!
