My dog chewed a soda can. What if she swallowed small metal pieces?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Female | spayed | 5 years and 6 months old | 75 lbs

My dog chewed up a soda can, it doesn't look like she really ate any of it, just chewed it up. Should I be concerned about small pieces hurting her if she has to pass any?

Oh no, that was naughty of Lucy! Yes, the small pieces can cause damage to her GI tract, but if she didn't swallow any, that won't happen. Monitor her feces, and if you see any blood in it, that's a sign her GI tract was damaged by the can and I would have her seen by a vet.
