My 8 yr old yorkie-shih Tzu has a small growth or cyst between his paw. It was bleeding at one time but stopped due to home care. I noticed there was a scab on it. How did it develop and what would be the procedure to remove it. He is in no pain whatsoever which has me baffled. Please advise. Thank you

Zac is an eight year old dog, and growths can occur as a normal part of aging. Sebaceous glands produce sebum, and if it becomes clogged, a cyst will form. Any suspicious growth should be examined by a vet. The vet can perform a test called a fine needle aspirate on it. To do this, the vet sticks a small needle into the lump to get a sample of it's cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope. It's usually painless to the animal, and relatively quick to perform. I would have Zac seen by a vet today or tomorrow. The vet can diagnose what is causing the growth and if it needs to be removed. Should it need to be removed, the vet will do it surgically.
