My cat died after severe wounds and vomiting blood. Was it poison?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My cat died on March 6 and we couldn't save him. He had two massive wounds on his back and on stomach probably caused by razor wire. Could he get poisoned there? He started vomited food (coffee ground color) and then blood, digested blood? on 3rd. He didn't eat anything at all after the injury. Even drinking water made him vomited blood. I've searched about it he couldn't eat or drink cuz of the blood inside his stomach. So what might caused his death? Rat poison or laceration on the stomach.

I am so sorry your cat died recently, please accept my condolences for your loss. The massive wounds may have been the cause of his death. He could have had internal injures you weren't aware of it, and that could have lead to him vomiting food and then blood. Unfortunately, without seeing him in person, I can't say for certain what caused his death. I recommend having a necropsy (an autopsy for animals) done on him, which may give you some answers as to what caused his death. Again, I'm so sorry for your loss :-(

So sorry this happened! It sounds like a toxicity of some sort. He probably ate something he shouldn't have (something poisonous or toxic to cats). The only way you will know for sure is to have a necropsy (autopsy) done by your vet but even then, many toxicities are hard to prove. A necropsy can rule out a problem with the heart or lungs which are also possible or some type of trauma he may have sustained. Again, sorry this happened. Hope this answered your question. If you have more, please feel free to post again.
