Hello, My dog ate a few small pieces of his rubber toy a few nights ago and has been making a hacking sound here and there over the last couple of days. Is this serious or will the rubber pieces pass through?

If the rubber pieces were small there is a good chance they will pass through without causing an obstruction, If the hacking sound continues than he should be examined by a vet to determine the cause. It could be related to the rubber toy or may be caused by a different problem. He could have a respiratory infection causing him to cough. Your vet can do a physical examination and take x-rays, if needed, to help diagnose and then determine if treatment is needed.
