Should I neuter my senior dog to prevent anal tumor recurrence?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My dog has a lump or tumor growth around his anus gland area. I wonder, what could be the reason to cause the growth? The vet say because i never neuter him. When I bring him to the vet, she suggest surgery but she can only remove part of the lump as she think it's too big and she also suggest i neuter my dog too but my dog is 13 yrs old senior who is on medicine fortekor. So should i neuter him to prevent the tumor from growing back according to the vet suggestion?

Yes, it is true that dogs who haven't been neutered are prone to developing anal tumors. Given I can't see him in person, I can't say what the best course of action is for him, but following your vet's recommendation would be best for him in my opinion :-)
