My rooster has pox on its head and beard. Is it fowl pox? What now?

The fowl pox vaccination should only be administered to healthy birds to prevent the transmission of the disease. It will not cure them if they already have fowl pox. It is also worth Keeping in mind that without proper handling and administration, the vaccine will be ineffective. However, without examining him and maybe running some tests, I can’t say for sure. I would caution the use of antibiotics without he guidance of a veterinarian (in some cases depending on the medication this is even illegal in a food animal), as some can leave dangerous residues in meat or eggs, or if the wrong antibiotic is used, bacterial resistance can occur. Also, if the underlying cause isn’t bacterial, then the antibiotics won’t do anything while a more effective treatment has been missed. Therefore, I would recommend having a veterinarian examine him and they can prescribe the appropriate medications. This looks like Pigeon pox, some birds recover from the disease spontaneously others don't but there is no treatment for it (not dangerous to humans). Pigeon pox is a viral disease to which pigeons are susceptible. Pigeon pox is caused by a virus that is spread by mosquitoes and dirty water but not in droppings. The disease causes pox scabs to form around the bird's face, mouth and feet.

Separate him from the flock for now. Keep him warm and offer pellets mixed with warm water to make a mash or paste. A vitamin supplement for poultry would also be recommended. Submit a stool sample to your veterinarian to diagnose intestinal parasites or bacterial/fungal overgrowth. This is most likely pigeon pox. I would just leave it alone. There is no cure or treatment. In some cases it will resolve on it's own. It can be transmitted to your other birds. There is a vaccine and it is recommended.
