What causes a dog to lose weight quickly even when eating normally?

Pet's info: Dog | Border Collie | Male | 2 years and 8 months old

Trick has lost weight over the last month he was 19.3kg he is now 17.7kg he hasnt had a change of food except ive increased the amount he gets now he did also have an infected hot spot that resulted in a course of antibiotics his activity levels havent changed he eats ok no vomiting or diahorea he is on a tiny amount of metacam for back pain what could be causing the weight loss he is scheduled to see vet tomorrow for a check up but its rather puzzling that he has lost that much weight

You are correct, it is puzzling he has lost that amount of weight in such a short period of time. I think it's an excellent idea to have him seen by a vet tomorrow. It could be that Trick is suffering from a heavy burden of intestinal worms, or he could have a medical disease causing this weight loss such as diabetes, liver disease, or dental problems. The vet can do a physical exam, blood tests, and a urinalysis to diagnose what is causing his weight loss, and can discuss treatment options with you.
