Is my 14-year-old dog with cancer in pain? She's not eating or active.

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Dachshund | Female | spayed | 3 years and 10 months old | 22 lbs

Our weenie terrier usually gets a UTI every 3 to 4 months. She is diabetic and blind. Vet did an Xray on kidney showed striations on the kidneys and they are not up by her back. They have sunk down to her lower extremities. She would not eat last or this morning. She would not even eat her snack after her insulin shot. She gets 10 uits 2 times a day. She lays around anddoesn't get excited. She is 14 yrs old. The vet mentioned cancer. Do you know if they are in pain when they cancer?

Unfortunately, yes cancer is painful to dogs. Dogs are quite good at hiding their pain, so they often do not show many outward signs of being in pain until they are very sick and quite painful. I'm sorry she is so sick :-(
