My dog had teeth removed. Can I stop her pain meds if she's happy?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Female | spayed | 6 years and 7 months old

Hello I know I should ask vet who performed the dental surgery but vet is not open yet. My little chi had 11 teeth removed and It is now almost two whole days later to the hour. She seems to not like the 1/4 of pain pill (morphine). Would it be ok to stop the rest of pills? There are 3 little pieces left which I was told to give every twelve hours. Dr did say she gave a little extra just in case and my baby just Ate her meal and is very happy, I hate makingg her lethargic and whiny with pill

If she does not seem to be in any pain and is eating and happy than it should not cause a problem to discontinue the pain medication. If you notice that she stops eating or seems painful than you might want to continue the medication to help alleviate any discomfort.
