Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 8 years and 7 months old
Toki suffers from HCM and today when I picked him up his heart seemed to be racing a lot more than usual and he had just been walking around before I picked him up, it wasn't like he had been exerting himself. He has also been drinking a lot more today than usual even though it has obviously increased since he was diagnosed. Just wondering if this means he is going down hill and that I should take him to the vet. Thank you in advance for your help.

Poor Toki! When a cat has HCM, they do have a higher than normal heart rate, but if it's racing, that can be a sign of progression in his disease. I would have him seen by a vet for this, as medication can prescribe that may help with his disease. In these cases, it's best the cat is seen as soon as possible, either tonight or first thing in the morning.
