My dog has a brain tumor. Are new breathing and eye discharge related?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 13 years and 11 months old | 35 lbs

My 14 year old Golden/Sharpei mix was diagnosed 14w days ago with a cancerous brain tumor (based on symptoms) after a neurological episode. 10 days ago, she lost her ability to stand without assistance and wont attempt to eat solid foods. I started her on a holistic treatment and we were seeing some improvements. Now, she has an eye and nose discharge and last night, she struggled to breathe. Is it possible we are looking at an unrelated cold/sinus issue, or is this a symptom of the brain tumor?

So sorry that Madison is having this problem. I would be suspicious that it is all related but can't be absolutely positive without some diagnostic testing. The tumor may have spread to her nasal cavity and/or lungs causing the nasal discharge and trouble breathing. You could have her evaluated by your vet again and see if an antibiotic and/or anti-inflammatory might help with the nasal discharge. If there is a secondary bacterial infection than it might help.
