My spayed cat's belly is warm but body cool. Is this normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Wirehair | Female | spayed | 1 month and 15 days old | 9 lbs

I was just holding my cat right now and noticed her belly is very warm, almost hot? The rest of her body is cool. Her belly is still shaved from having surgery (spayed) this past Saturday (02/25/17). She's been eating and drinking well, active and cries for me to just love her up and hold her. Is this normal for her belly to feel this warm/hot? I've never felt it like this

It could be that you have never noticed the temperature of Forrest's belly before because it was covered in fur, but warmth in that area can indicate infection. A cat's temperature is normally a lot warmer than a human's, between 101-102.5F, which is why she may feel warmer to you. You can take her temperature rectally, and if it's above 103F, I would have her seen by a vet immediately. If her temperature is normal, then she likely doesn't have an infection and you may just be more aware of her body temperature now that she is shaved.
