My unspayed senior dog is bleeding and eating soil. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

12 yr old not spayed standard poodle. Certain cancer, has had heavy bloody and clotted discharge from vulva off and on for about 4 mo. Seems no pain, is active etc. but craves and eats potting soil and bark from branches. Can't afford a vet right now. What could she be lacking in her diet due to the bleeding that I could give her? She eats Purina dog chow. Has had that all her life.

Please enquire about subsidized clinics or care credit to get her the help she needs. Her appetite is altered likely due to anemia and the blood loss needs to be stopped, by a hysterectomy before the condition can be resolved. No supplements will stem the blood loss
