My dog on Lasix has incontinence and blood in urine. Is this normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Doberman Pinscher | Male | neutered | 80 lbs

My 10 year old Doberman was diagnosed with CHF last week and immediately placed on Lasix. He was first taking two in the morning and two at night and now takes on pill twice a day. Suddenly he has no bladder control (wetting in his sleep) and now there is blood in his urine. Is this a side effect of the medication?

While loss of bladder control could be related to the diuretic furosemide blood in the urine would not be expected. It is possible that Hamada has a urinary tract infection or other bladder disease like bladder stones. I'd recommend making an appointment with your veterinarian to have him examined - they would likely recommend checking a urine sample to start.
