Is my cat's vomiting and not eating due to severe constipation?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 5 years and 4 months old | 11 lbs

My cat Paws spent threw up either white foam or liquid several times Thursday night. We took him to the vet Fri and she thought he had a really bad hairball and gave him laxatone and a shot for nausea. He threw up liquid again Sat morning so back to the vet. Didn't eat anything this entire time. After an xray she said he had a lot of hard stool and gave him an enema. He was kept over the weekend to be monitored. Can severe constipation cause lose of appetite and vomiting?

Poor Paws! Yes, in some cases severe constipation can certainly cause these symptoms in cats. It's good that he's being treated for this problem - hopefully he's acting better now! If not, I would recommend talking to your vet about whether something else might be going on - blood work would be helpful to help determine this, if it hasn't been done already.
