My dog's hygroma is an open wound. Does he need an urgent vet visit?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Lhasa Apso | Male | unneutered | 10 years and 1 month old | 25 lbs

My Lhasa (after research) had a hygroma that he licked/ itched enough to open as a wound as of today . I currently cleaned it and have it bandaged and have a shirt type item enroute to keep him from messing with it further. Do I need to rush him to the vet in the AM?

Yes, I would have Bruno seen in the morning. If he does have a hygroma, it may need to be drained and flushed, and small ones can be treated with laser therapy. In addition, because he has been licking and itching it enough to open it up, it may be infected from this, and antibiotics may be indicated as part of treatment. It sounds like you've done good work tonight, and I do recommend a vet visit in the morning. I hope this helps :-)
