My 5-month-old puppy just finished antibiotics, why is he eating less?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 4 months and 28 days old | 25 lbs

My 5-month-old puppy has started eating less the past day or two. We adopted him from a rescue last week. He was diagnosed with intestinal parasites after we brought him home and he just finished his last day of antibiotics today. Should we be concerned if he is still eating, just not as much?

It could be that Remy is teething and that's why he's not eating as much. You can try soaking his food in gently warmed low sodium beef or chicken broth, or you try mixing together dry food and canned food. If he's still not eating much in another 48 hours, I would bring him back into the vet for a health check.
