Pet's info: Dog | Bichon Frise | Male | 2 months and 13 days old | 5 lbs
Hi there. I am rescuing a 9 week old 5 lb Bichon Frise puppy next weekend. He will be joining a Poodle Bichon mix who is 6 yrs old that I adopted/rescued in early December. She is positive for heart worms and undergoing treatment. She had her first injection in early February and will have two more the 2nd week of March. The puppy has an Upper Resp infection and has been taking daily injections. I can't find out what he has. Should I be concerned for the older dog? We pick puppy up next weekend.

In general upper respiratory infections are contagious and it would probably be best to keep them separated until the puppy is no longer contagious. You may want to keep them separated longer since your dog will need to be exercise restricted after the heartworm treatment injections for 6 weeks. If the puppy has been receiving treatment through a veterinarian you should be able to obtain records and this could help determine how long the puppy might be contagious.
