Pet's info: Dog | Pug | Male | neutered | 9 years and 7 months old | 28 lbs
I have a 91/2 yr old male pug. The last couple of weeks I have noticed his voice (bark) has changed..it was a higher pitch. The last couple of days it was more hoarse sounding. Yesterday I noticed different times when he tried to bark, it was more like a squeak. He is eating and sleeping normal and doesnt appear to be in any distress. He isnt barking any more than ususal. He usually only barks when someone comes or leaves. Should I be concerned?

It could be that Spike is suffering from a respiratory infection, which can cause the change in his bark. There is a potential it could be due to cancer, trauma, infection, or an abscess. I wouldn't be concerned, but I would have him seen by a vet for this. The vet can do a physical exam, blood tests, urinalysis, and possibly x-rays to diagnose what is causing the change in his voice, and can treat him for it.
