How to prevent cat from scratching eye wound if she won't wear a cone?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 8 lbs

My cat has a wound near her around her eye. The wound wouldn't heal because she has been scratching/cleaning that area frequently. I have tried putting a e-collar on her but it freaks her out and she refuses to wear it. Are there any alternatives that I can stop her from scratching the wound?

Unfotunately the area around the eye is very difficult to cover with a bandage and probably Mimi would remove the bandage as well! I would suggest to try again the collar, most of the time cats need time to adapt but after 24 hrs are fine. Maybe insted of a plastic collar try a soft fabric collar, they are not as good as the hard one to prevent scratching but cats tend to tollerate them better.
