Cat lethargic, drooling, vomiting after Cerenia. Side effects or ER?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Norwegian Forest Cat | Male | neutered | 12 lbs

My cat exhibited lethargy, throwing up, and inappropriate urination today. I took him to the vet and they did bloodwork (no results until tomorrow), and gave him fluids and a shot of Cerenia. We are now home, and he is has vomited once and listlessly meowing, super lethargic, and drooling. Right now he's sleeping and as I check on him notice drool. Are these side effects of this anti-nausea meds? Should I wait for the blood results tomorrow AM or take him to pet emergency?

I'm sorry Sam is so sick! Excessive drooling and lethargy are side effects of Cerenia, and those certainly can be causing the symptoms you are seeing now. I would monitor him for now, and watch out for additional side effects such as fever, convulsion, panting, and muscle tremors. Should you see any of those signs, I would rush Sam into an ER vet immediately. Otherwise, wait until the morning to get the blood test results. Just to add, I'm always an advocate of seeing a vet just to be safe. In my opinion, it's best to be safe than sorry, and if you are very concerned about Sam, it's certainly find to take him into an ER vet to get checked out. I hope this helps and he feels better soon!
