How to treat dog blackheads on jowls and lips when wipes don't work?

Question

My dog is four years old and he's never had any acne problems but in the last 6 months he has really bad blackhead breakout lining his jowls and his upper lip around the corner. My question is how do I treat this problem? I took him to my vet because I thought it was a yeast infection and she said no, its acne and to wipe it with face wipes but that didn't help at all. Any suggestions? Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 4 years old | 28 lbs

You could give him a bathe with a medicated dog shampoo and see if that helps. If not, he should be rechecked by a vet to determine the cause and treatment. It sounds like he could have a bacterial and/or yeast infection so oral medications may be necessary. If your vet is not able to diagnose the problem and treat and then you could go to another vet for a second opinion. He may need an antibiotic, antifungal, and/or an anti-inflammatory to help treat the problem.
